🚀 Shareshot 2 — Free Screenshot Framing, Free Privacy Redactions, Batch Processing, Magic Import of Text and a New Native Mac app

This is a massive release with many new features and refinements! Here’s an overview of the biggest changes.

Free Screenshot Framing and Backgrounds

In 2.0 we’ve removed the watermark almost completely! This means everybody can now frame single screenshots and images over backgrounds for free without any purchase. The only exception for single screenshots is the use of custom image backgrounds, which still requires Pro.

We also made the lighting and shadow controls free without a watermark.

There’s no longer any excuse for posting unframed screenshots!

Free Privacy Tools

We’ve all done it: you’re about to share a screenshot and then realise it could leak personal information you don’t want to share such as phone numbers, email addresses or payment details.

Shareshot 2 adds free automatic privacy redactions. If your device detects text and faces in the image, you can just tap the face or word to hide them. Your choices of text to hide will be remembered and automatically re-applied when detected in future images!

Currently it is able to detect names, email addresses, phone numbers, payment details (including BIC and IBAN codes), QR codes and dates.

Create Images from Text, Markdown and Source Code

Years ago people started screenshotting Notes app and posting that screenshot to social media. Increasingly people create text image cards to post, especially for visual social posts to networks like Instagram. Often these are cropped out of other apps and frankly… quite ugly.

Now in Shareshot 2 you can import, paste or type text and instantly create an image from it using one of our many included themes. Plain text has no formatting, but write your text using Markdown and you get a range of formatting styles for headings, bold, italic, lists and block-quotes.

Not only that, if you are a developer you can format source code using the built-in syntax highlighting for common coding languages.

Creating images from text enables a new superpower — creating images from links if you specify text that is just a link to some media. Shareshot recognises the links of several media types and creates a pretty card image suited for the kind of content.

This includes the common practice of posting images of social posts from other social networks into image posts on Instagram.

Importing a podcast URL

Now you can just use the system “Share” sheet on your content to send the link to Shareshot and create a card instantly.

The content types supported include:

  • Links to posts on X, Bluesky and Mastodon (with built in “xcancel” option for X links).
  • Links to Apple Music songs, albums or artist pages.
  • Links to podcast episodes & feeds.
  • YouTube videos & channels.
  • App Store apps.
  • Web previews (OpenGraph).

Each type has its own style options, including the ability to include the source link as text and/or QR Code.

Batch Processing in App

Often you need to prepare a bunch of images at once, with a consistent look and output sizes — maybe you’re preparing images for an Instagram carousel post with a mix of screenshots and marketing text.

Previously this would require using a custom workflow in Shortcuts but now all versions of Shareshot 2 — iPhone, iPad and Mac — support batch mode.

Batch Mode

Just import multiple images by pasting, selecting or dropping multiple files. If you have already imported one, show the input selector (show sidebar on Mac or iPad, tap the multi-input button on iPhone) and then add one or more images.

Batches support mixed data types so you can paste, drop or import a mix of images and text files in the same batch.
