Why doesn’t Shareshot find a frame for my device?

We include frames for almost all recent Apple devices from circa 2020 onwards. For iPhones this means iPhone 11 and newer.

NOTE: Because Apple does not provide frames for them we currently do not support:

  • 2020 M1 Macbook Pro 13”
  • 2023 M2 Macbook Air 15”
  • iPhone SE of any generation

For the included frames we support screenshots taken on the primary display of the device in the standard resolution options. For a Macbook this means we support screenshots taken on the laptop’s built-in display in one of the default display modes such as “Standard” or “More Space”.

We do not currently support framing screenshots in any of the other resolutions or from external displays unless they just happen to match a supported resolution of a frame we include. e.g. if your external display is running in 4K, a screenshot from that would be recognised as an Apple TV 4K screenshot.

If Shareshot cannot find any frame to fit your image, use the button in the app to let us know what it is if you believe there should be a frame for it. Cropped images or random resolutions will never match a suitable frame.

How does Shareshot find a frame for my device?

Shareshot matches the exact pixel resolution of your screenshot to the transparent content area of frames. For frames included with Shareshot we may also support some alternative resolutions, for example to support the “Display Zoom” setting on iOS where screenshots taken in “Larger Text” mode produce a different resolution of screenshot for the same device.

For custom frames, the screenshot image pixel resolution must exactly match the transparent content area in the custom frame image. So if you have a custom resolution screenshot, you can make your own custom device frame image with a space exactly that size in the middle of it.
