Adding more frames to Shareshot

One of Shareshot’s superpowers is that you can easily create your own frames for any image, you just need a PNG with a hole in it the right size of the image you want to frame! The rest is “magic”.

Apple frames

We include almost all the Apple device bezels supplied in their Apple Design Resources page, which go back to the iPhone 11. See the next section for older device frames.

We do not ship Apple Watch 6 and earlier frames, but S6 frames that cover the same resolution back to S4 are available. Read the “How to add custom frames” section on how to use them.

For the latest up-to-date Apple frames you can always check Apple Design Resources. Note that iOS devices cannot usually open the .dmg files that contain the bezel images, so you will need to use a Mac to extract the frames. In addition, you will need to use the PNG versions, not PSD or Sketch files.

Frames for older Apple devices and other manufacturers like Samsing, Xioami, Google etc.

One good source of these frames is Facebook, who have produced many for a very wide range of devices. Just download them and open one of the frame .png images in Shareshot to add it to your frames list!

How to add custom frames

If you have a frame you already want to use, you can just drop it into Shareshot or try to create a new Shareshot with it from your camera roll.

Remember to save it as a PNG to keep the transparent areas for it to work as a frame!

How to make your own custom frames

A frame image can be any image you have that meets the following conditions (as of version 1.0):

  1. The frame must have a 100% transparent black area where the screenshot should go, i.e. rgba(0, 0, 0, 0).
  2. The transparent screenshot area must be the exact pixel resolution of the screenshot resolution you want it to match.
  3. The clear screenshot area must cover the exact center of the frame image by at least one pixel.

For example to make a frame for 4K video thumbnails, you can use a picture of a TV that has a 3840 x 2160 transparent area on with a screen around it. As long as any part of that transparent area covers the center pixel of the whole image, it will work.

We have a more detailed post on creating your custom frame images with example.

We’ll add links here to alternative frames and frames for other device platforms in future.
